HTML

HTML is a markup language for describing web document or web pages. HTML stands for Hyper Text Markup Language. A markup language is a set of markup tags. HTML documents are described by HTML tags. Each HTML tag describes different document content.

Below are basic HTML tags used to format the appearance of the text on your web page:

Basic Tags

<html></html>
Creates a HTML document

<head></head>
Sets off the title and other information that is not displayed on the webpage itself

<title></title>
Adds a title

<body></body>
Sets off the visible portion of the document



Body Attributes

<body bgcolor=”pink”> or <body bgcolor=”#000000>
Sets the background colour, using name or hex value

<body text=”black”>
Sets the text colour, using name or hex value

<body link=”blue”>
Sets the colour of links, using name or hex value


Text Tags

<b></b>
Creates bold text

<i></i>
Creates a citation, usually italic

<font size=”10”></font>
Sets size of font

<font color=”green”></font>
Sets font colour, using name or hex value

<h1></h1>
Creates the largest headline

<h6></h6>
Creates the smallest headline



Links

<a href=”URL”></a>
Creates a hyperlink

<a href=mailto:EMAIL></a>
Creates a mail to link

<a href=”URL”><img src=”URL”></a>
Creates an image or link

Formatting

<p></p>
Creates a new paragraph

<br></br>
Inserts a line break

<ul></ul>
Create a bulleted list

<li></li>
Precedes each list item and adds a number or symbol depending upon the type of list selected

<ol></ol>
Creates a numbered list

Tables

<table></table>
Creates a table

<tr></tr>
Sets off each row in a table

<td></td>
Sets off each cell in a row
